A new extension has been released for Firefox that lets users check the status of realms in World of Warcraft within the browser. The extension is accessible through the Firefox Tools menu and lets you view current information about all realms on WoW, like which ones are up or not, the type of realm (RP,PVP,Normal), and their population size. It can also be set up to track an individual realm and alert you if the status changes.

Due to the pop up that minimizes WoW whenever it happens, I've found this to be a bit of a pain, but I do recommend the WoW Realm Status Google gadget, which is non-intrusive. It fits in your personalized Google homepage and allows you to keep track of just the realm(s) you are interested in and shows the green up or red down arrows as icons to let you know the status. It also shows the most recent Blue posts in the Realm Status forums as clickable links to keep you updated on that news. It was written and coded by my boyfriend, and you can find it here: http://www.google.com/ig/add?moduleurl=http://www.speedofwood.com/gadgets/gload.php?gadget=/wow/realmstatus.xml If you'd like to see it in action on my own page, here's a pic of me using it: http://www.pinktoque.com/graphics/wowrealmgadget.jpg
while this extension is a good idea, its actually quite annoying to use fully. Once installed, it lets you look up the status/population on any server. If you choose, you can moniter a server so you dont have to keep scrolling through to find yours. Doing this also means you get a popup window everytime ti changes. These popup windows make WoW minimize when ever they pop up. So you can have firefow open behind WoW anymore.
Some of you might find this usefull, i love firefox and wow, so its a good combo.
